High-Temperature Glaze Ceramic Painting –Begonia (Original 1/1)
Story
The inspiration for this piece came from a quiet afternoon spent alone with a potted begonia. Xianyue Lee depicts it sitting silently on the floor; up close, one sees only chaotic textures and intricate crackles—like traces left by time or the blurring of memories repeatedly wiped.
Yet, as you take a few steps back and look through that "mist," the silhouette of the begonia emerges. Lee reflects: “Beauty sometimes requires distance to be truly seen.” The most moving element is the streak of blue—traveling from the leaves, down the pot, and flowing onto the floor. It is as if this normally silent indoor plant released its long-accumulated soul in a single moment. Who says still life has no life? Its vitality lies not in an outward pose, but in the fluid movement of color. This is an invitation to the act of "viewing": to walk closer, then further away; to see the texture, and eventually, the soul.
