A compelling addition to the "Walking Series," this mug tells the story of Persicaria perfoliata (Mile-a-minute weed), a traditional medicinal plant known for its healing properties and its sharp, protective thorns. Artist Xinfeng Wang shares a personal connection with this plant, having had her skin pricked many times by the tiny red thorns hidden beneath its stems and leaves. She was fascinated by its dual nature: the sharp, triangular leaves on the stems contrasting with the soft, circular leaves at the tips that cradle round fruits. This hand-painted piece is her artistic tribute to this resilient plant, capturing its unique geometry and the untamed beauty of the wild.

Materials

Hand-thrown and hand-pinched stoneware, decorated with underglaze or in-glaze techniques. Fired at high temperatures (1220–1280°C) for durability and a unique rustic texture.

Each plate is shaped and painted entirely by hand. Subtle variations in brushstroke, glaze tone, and pattern placement are a natural result of the process—making every piece uniquely its own.

Care

Not microwave or oven safe. Hand wash gently with mild soap. Due to the porous nature of stoneware, temporary "rain-leak" spots may appear when wet but will vanish once dry. For best results, soak in rice water overnight before first use to season the clay.
